Boris Eyfman´s Ballet Theater | Театр Балета Бориса Эйфмана
Petrogradsky District M Chkalovskaya
The St. Petersburg State Academic Ballet Theatre of Boris Eyfman was founded in 1977. The theater, which used to be called the Leningrad Ballet Ensemble, originally appeared as the theater of one choreographer (Boris Eyfman), which was a unique characteristic in those days. Having neither a stage nor a permanent rehearsal space, the theater managed to create a strong impression with its very first performance; those who saw "Two Voices" with Alla Osipenko and John Markovsky still remember the show fondly and they remember being pleasantly surprised as well. The repertoire created by the ballet master is within the range of a variety of genres: chamber ballet programs ("Autographs", "Metamorphoses"), comic ballets ("The Marriage of Figaro", "The Twelfth Night", and "The Intrigues of Love"), parable ballets ("The Legend") and fairy-tale ballets ("The Firebird", "Pinocchio"). An important place in the creative activity of the theater is occupied by the shows´ stage decorations, which are modeled after international, classic literary works.
